About the shooting on Devon

Summer Meeting!

This is the last reminder that the July ENN meeting will be tomorrow, Tuesday, July 15, 7:00 pm at 6247 N. Lakewood.  The meeting and picnic will be in the backyard.  You may want to bring a sweater just in case it is a bit chilly, although the house will be open.  ENN will be collecting $8 dues for the year from those who wish to become or remain voting members.

Most of you have now heard of the Saturday afternoon shooting on the 1300 block of Devon, where an innocent bystander was killed in what has been characterized as a likely gang-related shooting.  One of three suspects has been arrested and is being held without bond.  This suspect provided the weapon and drove the get away car.  His address was listed as the 4400 block of North Clarendon.  Two other suspects are being sought.  We will provide any updates at the meeting.

Alderman Osterman has provided the following announcement of a Wednesday evening positive loitering walk:

The 24th Police district will be organizing a positive loitering walk this Wednesday the 16th at 7 pm Starting at Glenwood & Devon, walking down to Sheridan and back with a moment of silence for the man that was killed. We need to rally the community to take a stand against crimes such as these.

Alderman Osterman would like to invite you and your communities (Loyola staff/students/security personnel along with members of the Thorndale Action Task Force and neighbors) to join us for this walk. It will be attended by Commander Waldera, Both Aldermen Moore and Osterman, along with various other residents and businesses in the area.

The agenda for the meeting follows:
  • Guest Speaker:  Katrina Balog, Executive Director of the Edgewater Chamber of Commerce
  •  Report on the 20th Annual Neighborhood garage (held Saturday, June 7th)
  •  Results of the May flyering campaign
  •  Devon Flower Box volunteering
  •  ENN website update
  •  Recent neighborhood crime update
  •  Commercial storage building on 6300 N. Broadway (east side) requesting to replace historical terra cotta facade.  Does ENN want to weigh in?
  •  Vacant Trumbull School building (5200 N. Ashland): does ENN want to request this building be added to Edgewater historical register?
  •  Approval of March 11, 2013 meeting minutes
  •  Annual dues
  •  Other issues of concern

Save the date for the next meeting: Tuesday, November 11th, 7pm, location TBD

Hope to see you there.

Hello everyone!

After a hiatus, and a decision to press ahead with a slightly different domain name, we welcome you to the Edgewater North Neighborhood Association page.  Here, you will find just a little bit of information about happenings in the neighborhood between Broadway and Glenwood, and between Granville and Devon, as well as the occasional event slightly outside of our borders.

We'll welcome announcements, items of note, yard sale announcements, and other items of interest.

Chicago neighborhood associations make many of the decisions that affect development in the community.  ENN holds regular public meetings and makes printed agendas available beforehand.  All residents of the community are encouraged to attend.

We welcome the opportunity to hear from you.  Please let us know what more we can do to improve our community, make our neighborhood safer, or if you have questions or concerns you would like addressed.

Contact information for the officers and the page administrator are to the right.

Jim Olson and Darrick Jackson, ENN page administrators.
